601 | CO-HABITATION HIGH-RISE

Instructor Gisela Buarmann

Independent

This project proposes a cohabitation between people and frogs in the New York City. The project began by looking at frogs natural habitat, and seeing the condition needed to create a thriving ecosystem; pond, rainwater, foliage, vertical space, and insects as a source of protein. These elements are the foundation of the project. As a result this vertical units were proposed which were derived from mid journey experiments and formally inspired by looking at frogs feet. The creation of the vertical structures have apertures that allows rainwater to penetrate the interior space and create ponds and areas for frogs to lay their eggs and for tadpoles to live. These vertical chambers are fully embedded with the qualities needed to create a thriving ecosystem for frogs. These spaces also serve as a public garden areas for people to grow their crops and vegetables. The public common space will be on the ground floor of the project in the pre-existing building. It will be for peacemaking circles in which troubled individualizes may come to express hardships as a method to help them overcome their traumas.
